That´s true, but I don´t have any other programs right now then Daz and Gimp. The general problem with all maps and textures is that they distort when you stretch and morph the virtual body. It can be very annoying especially on the breasts, when you try to do make them bigger and more fake looking. It also takes a lot of time to place the maps over the texture in gimp. It is like try and error, place it then see how it looks on the figure, and retry if necessary. I did it that way with the little tattoos on the girl of my current project. If you use magnets to deform little bodyparts then you safe the try and error time, cause you can move them around as you wish, but magnets are difficult to use and you crete new try and error time this way too. I can´t say much on this in the moment, cause I´m just an amateur trying to make the best out of a picture. But I had the thought before to use displacements for adding ripples, scars and such and I will certainly try in one of my future projects...
